Jibreel Faulker scored Canisius’ first eight points of overtime and the second-seeded Golden Griffins held on to beat No. 7 Manhattan 69-65 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s basketball quarterfinal on Friday night.
Faulkner tied his career high with 20 points for Canisius (15-16), which moves on to play in Sunday’s semifinals against the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 3 Quinnipiac and No. 6 Monmouth.
The Golden Griffins trailed by as many as 12 points in regulation and took their first lead at 59-57 when Faulkner made a layup with 4:20 left in overtime.
Faulker then made a pair of 3-pointers 52 seconds apart to give Canisius a 65-60 lead with 2:45 to play in the extra period.
Malik Johnson made a driving layup and a pair of free throws in the final nine seconds to secure the victory.
Canisius played the overtime without sophomore Takal Molson, a first-team all-MAAC performer, who fouled out in regulation.
Freshman Warren Williams had a career-high 27 points for the Jaspers (11-21).
