ALBANY — Local authorities rescued about a dozen cats, including kittens, from an abandoned building this week.
The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and Albany County District Attorney posted photos of the cats, some just young kittens, on social media on Tuesday. The cats can be seen inside a building, where trash is strewn everywhere and the walls deteriorating.
“Yesterday we were alerted to an abandoned house in Albany in which there was an unknown number of cats,” the humane society said on their Facebook page Tuesday.
They rescued the litter Monday and trapped six more cats on Tuesday.
“Fortunately the cats seem social — just hungry and shy,” the humane society posted.
Animal control officers and the humane society said they plan on returning to the Albany building on Wednesday to trap any other cats still there.
